RHS Fruit and Vegetable Competition
On 4 October 2016 EHS won the Affiliated Societies Cup for the best collection of apples and the EJ White Trophy for the best dish of dessert apples at the RHS London Harvest Show. Both displays made by Gerry Edwards.
The nine dishes of apples and pears comprised Ashmead's Kernel, Cox's Orange Pippin, Egremont Russet, Golden Delicious and Royal Gala (all dessert apples), Bramley's Seedling and Howgate Wonder (both cooking apples) and Conference and Doyenne du Comice (both dessert pears).
We were up against stiff competition from Nottinghamshire and Devon but won the Affiliated Societies Cup for the best Exhibit as well as the E.J. White Trophy for the best dish of dessert apples. Coincidentally E.J. (Ted) White was a member of Eastcote Horticultural Society for many years. Many thanks to Colin Spires for helping Gerry finalise the selection.
