The Myrtales is an order of 14 families of dicotyledenous flowering plants taking its name from the Myrtaceae (myrtle family). Many species are woody plants, often with flaky bark, opposite leaves and a chacteristic basal narrowing of petals.

The family Lythraceae includes pomegranates. Members of the Onagraceae (evening primrose family) are cultivated for their medicinally useful oils. The family Melastomataceae includes a few succulent species in the genus Medinilla.
